Preparing for an interview in COVID time

With the pandemic the search for employment has changed. Employers have, among other things, changed the way they recruit. For example, interviews are held less in person and more at a distance. In this case, employers contact candidates and conduct an interview either by phone or online using platforms such as Skype, FaceTime, Zoom and many others.

How to prepare?

You’re preparing like for a face-to-face interview. Many of the questions will remain the same as in a face-to-face interview. Remember to explain your qualities, talk about your job-related skills, your training, your social implications, your motivation to work for their company, etc.

Telephone interview

When the interview is conducted over the phone, have your documents at hand, such as your CV, as well as paper and pencil so that you can take note of important information. Remember to write down the questions you would like to ask the employer. It is better to be prepared in advance than to start looking for your documents and keep the employer waiting.

Choose a quiet place so he can hear you well. You will also be less distracted.

Since the employer does not see you, it is important to be articulate so that they can understand you easily. I advise you to use your voice. Be dynamic in the tone of your voice so that they want to hire you. You must adopt a tone that is not monotonous. He needs to feel your motivation and interest in the position he has to offer you.

Virtual Interview

Turn off distractions such as television to ensure you stay focused and don’t distract the employer. You can also tell people around you about your interview so that you are not disturbed. The employer doesn’t want to see your loved ones walk behind you!

Prepare and install your technological tools before the interview to ensure that they work properly. Try out and practice, even just installing the camera and making sure you have your face in focus. Also, having good lighting in the room is an important asset.

Finally, think about the background. It’s better to see a library behind you than a bathroom!
